Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
Just wondering has anyone heard anything about the Amazon Alexa app being added to Sync 3? They said at CES in January that it would be added, I sometime wish they would keep their mouth shut until they are ready to release some of this stuff and that goes for updates as well. When the latest Version of Sync 3 is v 2.3 then everyone should be able to download and install for free, but instead they tell you it's not available when clearly it is. All 2018 F150 have v2.3
A few of us have experienced this. The most viable approach is to downgrade back to 2.2, verify the installation, and then do a straight upgrade to 3.0 build 17276, skipping 3.0 build 17194.
The 2.2 downgrade process was finally worked out and documented:

"Gracenote is now a Nielsen company. Gracenote's best known for MusicID, a music recognition software which identifies compact discs and delivers artist metadata and cover art to the desktop. ... It provides software and metadata to businesses which enables their customers to manage and search digital media."
Also - "The Ford Motor Company revolutionized in-car technology with the introduction of Ford SYNC and MyFord Touch. The Ford team turned to Gracenote to improve how drivers access and manage their music through voice commands, music metadata and Album Cover Art."

The most boring (and informative), 30 minutes of my weekend ^. I highly suggest DanMc85 and JM061 check it out just to know a bit more about iAP2 protocol interactions on head units.

So before I drop $50 on a USB Hub to make Car Play work. Me being the cheap person I am was thinking, I do electronics by trade. I am pretty sure these devices are pretty simple. Has anybody figured a way to make a non CP hub into a CP hub? Maybe a resistor swap or something similar. I just can't see it being that hard. take an old one apart and a new one and see what is different.
Anyway just a passing thought I guess it is better then passing something else.

The newer hub has a chipset that can perform USB device OR host mode on the data bus (via adaptive emulation).
The sync3 head unit / APIM operates in USB host mode (exclusively), where as the old hub supported/operated in device mode (exclusively).
Being that Apple / iOS Devices, as well as the CarPlay spec work/operate in USB host mode (exclusively), the old hub didn’t work — because per the USB spec/protocol, there can’t be more than one host per bus.
The new hub’s chipset essentially emulates the iOS connection as USB device mode data bus.
This explains why the android auto devices work fine without the hub upgrade, because they do not operate in host mode.
This particular company makes such USB hubs with the adaptive chipset:

ItÂ’s an entirely different embedded chipset in the new hub...

Thanks I was hoping it was only a current draw problem. I guess it is 50 bucks for me.
