Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
A big thank-you to JM061 for starting this thread and to everyone who has been contributing, assisting, and answers questions for other members!
I've read through all 271 pages of postings and I appear to be hitting an issue with my upgrade, similar to several other postings, but with no resolution.
I have a 2016 F-150 with Sync 3 v1.0 (Build 13139) Non-NAV.
I ordered from www.eastgatefordpartscanada.ca a replacement USB hub (HC3Z-19A387-B) for $78.34 and now have it installed.
Next, I proceeded with the Sync 3 v2.2 update. I downloaded the files, formatted my USB stick to exFAT, copied the files to the root of the drive (uncompressed part 1 and ensured files where in correct location on the stick), started the truck, plugged in the USB stick, and watched the Updating System Software... message appear. That is where it stayed. After 1 hour 1/2 still running, with no confirmation or error messages, I turned off the truck. After 10 minutes, I turned on the truck and received the 'Installation Failed - The installion has run out of space or does not work with this version' message.
I've attempted to use several different types of USB sticks, from different brands, different USB versions (USB 2 and USB 3), with various read/write speeds, formatting to exFAT or FAT32, following the same process, the Updating System Software... message appears along the top of the screen, stays for well over an hour, with no further messages, similar to posts #2360 and #2365.
On posts #1547 and #1699, dmwilson talks about splitting up the files as, in some cases, there appears to further issues where the system can still run out of space. So, I attempted to reduce the number of files installation on the first USB key by removing Item4 = HN1T-14G423-BA, and adding that to the start of the second USB key. Exact same issue, Updating System Software... appears, ran it for about 1 1/2 hours, no update messages.
I've also read on some posts that users have updated with the original USB ports while others have updated using the updated USB hub. Not sure if that is the issue?
Now, when checking the About SYNC information, my Gracenote Version appears to be missing. I originally started with v1.1.1.615 (NA-0010). From post #1701, the fix appears to be to apply 3 of the tar ***** that are related to Gracenote. I'm a little hesitant on performing this step, as I'm still at v1.0 whereas that post is at v2.2.
Any ideas how to get through my installation? Appreciate any guidance you can offer!
Cheers,
Daniel

I've upgrade from Sync to Sync 3 in my 2015 XLT and have it mostly working. I ran into problems when trying to connect the original USB cable into the back of the APIM. I ordered this cable recommended to me by lucas8888:
https://seismicaudiospeakers.com/pro...usb-male-cable
I'm sure it'll work, but I'm concerned that without the retaining clips on the OEM cable, this could eventually work itself loose. I don't know? I've tried searching for this, and I thought I remembered seeing discussion on it, but could someone tell me what OEM cable works for connecting between the Sync 3 APIM and the USB hub (to work with carplay), please???
Thanks!

That's fair!
Yes, unzipped folder into root of the USB stick. Ensured the 4 compressed files were inside the SyncMyRide folder and the autoinstall.lst file was located in the root.
It appears to attempt the install, but I never receive a completion notice. For the two attempts that went over 1 1/2 hours, my gas tank took a hit!
