Default clearcoat issues?

hey guys, it was a beautiful day here in houston so i gave the truck a really good wash. I noticed this smudgy looking spot that I noticed a while back, figuring I'd take care of it when I could give her a good cleaning.

well, turns out, that spot (about the size of a thumb print) looks like the clear coat is flaking. I'm concerned this may happen elsewhere. its hard to get a good shot of it but you can kind of see it here. its on the back driver's side part of the cab on the top.

anybody seen anything like this on these newer trucks?

Yep, but it happened where rock salt chipped the paint.

Clear coat issues they wont warrant unless it fails the tape test, so the very least, they can do a tape test and if it separates, great, covered, if not, well.....

Had something similar happen to our 2013 Elantra GT after 1 year. Hyundai took care of it, no questions asked, and had the entire door repainted to match. Hopefully Ford will do the same.

I thought Ford shifted from a "three wet" to a "two wet" paint system where the paint and clear coat are combined in one layer. I am not an expert in paint, but thought it eliminated a dedicated clear top coat.

They did, which is why they wont warrant clear coat issues. Being said that, how can the clear separate if it is supposed to be a wet system?
