They didn't because it had a chip in the middle and immediately said no, chip caused it. Yet, when I have shown it to paint guys, they all said, thats not right.
Does this look normal to you? I can understand a little coming off immediately around the chip itself, but not a long portion like this.
Still should have done the tape test.
Yeah it's an odd shape for sure. Usually chips are more round. Like the other pic i posted, I've seen just the clear come off. But yea it is odd

I have chips all over my truck. that isn't just a chip, its a chip where the clearcoat started flaking off because the clearcoat didn't adhere properly.
the shape is too weird for it to be anything else.
I agree, but I have already done touch up on it and have it to the point where I can wet sand and polish it smooth. Hopefully it blends well enough to not be seen.
