Default Adding towing mirrors

Alright, I've searched and searched and only got more confused.

I have an 18 STX with a temp sensor in the right mirror.

I want towing mirrors with heated glass and puddle lights.

Can this be done? Heated glass would be really nice, puddle lights would be good to have also.

Thanks for the help.

I have a 2019 stx and I will be installing my tow mirrors today, weather permitting! My STX has OEM power adjustable mirrors and also rear window glass defrost. My STX has the 8 pin connector for the mirrors. My research told me that I can get tow mirrors with power adjustable, defrost and turn signals, install them and all that stuff will work. I finally found a set of knock offs on amazon(see link below) that have the temp sensor in the passenger side mirror like our newer trucks need. I don't think you can just plug and play a different mirror and get the puddle lights in our trucks even though some of the mirrors come with them and 8 pin connectors. But I could be wrong. Interesting addition.... my mirrors came with the 8 pin connector AND 3 extra wires. Manufacturer told me they are for puddle lights, clearance lights and spot auxiliary for their future mirrors .
heres what I got....

Forgot to mention, the reason I bring up that my truck has rear window defrost is because my research told me that the switch for the dash is what will also turn on your mirror defroster. I've had some guys say that without the rear window defrost the mirror defroster will come on when you turn the windshield defroster to max but I can't speak to that. Seems odd to me

Good to know about the rear defrost, luckily I have that also . Why would a vehicle these days not have that?

Please keep me up on your install, pictures, videos, whatever you can. Sounds like exactly what I'm looking to do.

If the puddle lights don't end up working, I may run some small light pods and connect them to the white light bulbs in the third break light housing.

Buy the OEM ford mirrors (JL3Z17696BA). They are much better than the aftermarket. It is plug and play and comes with an 8 to 22 pin adapter. These mirrors have spot lights and puddle lights but you will need to change the door wiring harness to a 2019 lariat or above trim harness and do programming in forscan. This is the route I went and couldn't be happier.

That's interesting. Do you still have the wiring part number and price?

I put these OEM mirrors on my 2017 XLT without the extra wiring and they work just fine for the power adjust, heat, and signal lights (of course the puddle lamps and spots don't work). Great addition.

Ok so I got mine installed and so far I couldn't be happier! Every function that the mirror came with and I expected to work did, power adjustable mirror, defrost, and turn signal. Took maybe a half hour to do both sides. Just pop off the trim, unplug the 8pin connector, remove 2 10mm bolts and 2 10mm nuts, remove the mirror. Repeat in reverse to install! Heres a link to a video that makes it pretty self explanatory.

not my video but was the simplest I found. The mirrors I used are in the link above. I'm very happy but I just installed them today! Only thing I'm worried about will be if they shake/vibrate on the highway but time will tell. They seem to be built very tough, I weighed them and their 14.2lbs each!
