Default Adding factory remote start?

Hey All

I have been doing a bunch of reading on the forums about remote start. It didn't come as an option on my XLT and I'm looking to add it. I have seen and read the many topics about the Ford OEM system that adds a second remote. Ideally id like a single key fob.

I've seen people ask about the 'factory' remote start and comments saying that it cant be added due to the remote running on different frequencies.

From what I understand the standard 3 button (Lock, Unlock, Panic) 'flip key' used in the XLT operates on the 315Mhz band while the 4 button (Lock, Unlock, Remote Start, Panic) 'flip key' operates on 902Mhz.

I have found a part online that appears to be the signal receiver for the key fobs. FL3Z-15607-C is listed as the receiver for the 902Mhz channel while FL3Z-15607-B is for 315hz.

I also found a control unit (FL3Z-15604-J) that supports remote start but I'm wondering if that is already installed in my vehicle and just not enabled.

What I'm hoping to understand is if the receiver was changed, new keys were cut / programmed and then remote start was enabled with IDS / FORScan would remote start work?

Can anyone with the service manuals tell where these parts are installed in the vehicle and if there is more parts to this system?

Brad

You can't add the 4 button remote on 15 and up trucks for remote start, have to buy the whole system from ford and have the extra little fob. I tried the same thing on my 16 and wouldn't program. I have the little fob from ford and I thought it would be a pain but really isn't. Another little feature of the the ford aftermarket fob is that the range is 3xs that of the 4 button key fob. It's really small so not as bad as I thought it would be. Now for 14 and below models all you would have to do is get the remotes and ford could match them so if anyone says in wrong make sure they have a 15-16

Not only is the range a lot better with the separate fob, you can also get a 2 way fob that blinks a green light to let you know the truck is running. Like gymratt said, the small fob really is no problem.

Have you considered an aftermarket such as a Clifford? I had factory remote when I
bought my GMC Sierra new in 07 and it sucked big time. Had the Clifford 1 mile remote
start put on and that thing was awesome.

The remote start that is on my Lariat is much improved over what GM's was on my 07
so I'm keeping it, if it had the range (or lack there of) that my GM had I'd put another
Clifford on there in a heartbeat. You can use just one key fob and it has an indicator
on the screen that shows the truck is running and other neat options that show what
temp is in the cab.

I would also go the aftermarket route. I had a two way Viper on my 2012 and the range was amazing. It's nice when you're Christmas shopping inside the mall and you can start it a mile away. Although I understand your desire to only have one fob.

i installed the ford kit http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/at...2&d=1456486628 . it was plug and play, plugged it into back of obd 2 connector wire tied module and wires under dash and put the antenna under dash as high as i could reach.

had a friend turn it on with his ford computer - prob can be turned on using ford scan - very easy and no wire cutting.

I went aftermarket and got the Viper 2 way system from Best Buy. Got it put on my truck and my wife's car right before our daughter was born. It is awesome for those hot texas summers and our "cold" winters.
