I did not have have factory alarm or remote start on my XLT, so I bought a Viper VSS5X10 unit and it took care of both. The guy who installed it made it to where I use the original key/remote for everything. I press the lock button 3 times for remote start.

had a friend turn it on with his ford computer - prob can be turned on using ford scan - very easy and no wire cutting.
also the remote start run time can be set on the cluster setting screen on your truck.

Ordered mine on Saturday. By Saturday night I received an email asking me some truck info so he can program (apparently it can be installed on push to start trucks too), then promptly received email instructions, and Sunday morning it showed as shipped. Very happy with the fast response from him.

I'll post my experience once I get the unit. Should get here by Saturday or before.

I like the idea of not messing with a toggle switch under the dash. Oh and apparently it can be reset, so if you switch to another compatible truck you can migrate this as well.

What type of range do you get with the fobs now?

It should be the same range as for unlocking the truck. The transmitter ranges don't change. About 40-60 feet in my case, depending how many obstacles in between.

Now I'm looking for a way to extend the keyfob range, but not all that important. I can start the truck from inside the house and that's good enough for now.
