2018 3.5 Ecoboost Cam Phaser Recall - 21N03
This could be the best news I've gotten all month. Question for anyone aware, are rebuilt/salvage title trucks eligible for this? Typical service posts include that verbiage but I'm not able to find it. I have all of the parts needed for this job already purchased but I would love more than anything to NOT do this myself. Anyone?
is this considered a safety recall? Thought it was a CSP issue. Not sure if that makes a difference ? Anyone ?
I just had my truck in for service last week and had the Cam Phaser Recall Done a few days ago, which of I'm not mistaken was a simple software update. I see now on the Ford Pass app that there is a Cam Phaser Replacement Recall 21N03 so I guess I'm headed back to the dealer again?? Anyone know anything about this recall??
Hi all,
I'm new here. I have a 2018 F150 Sport with the 3.5L engine. My truck has about 91,500 miles on it. I just got the truck back from the dealer after having the cam phasers replaced. I drove it home from the dealership (about 10 miles) and parked it in the driveway. I smelled antifreeze when I got out of the truck and found a pool of it under the truck. I checked the radiator and hoses and nothing. I called the dealership and had them come get the truck. They say the water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. They said it has nothing to do with the cam phaser work. This truck has never leaked a drop of anything before the cam phaser work was done. Does this sound correct? I am going to fight this. I would gladly pay for the part, but the labor should be "eaten" by the dealership.

The knocking or rattling coming from the phaser doesnt hurt anything. I had a 2008 f150 5.4L and cam phaser on passengerside rattled like crazy, I replaced it myself and after about a month the new part started rattling too. There are plugs that can be installed to permanently place the phasers in the advanced position for the 5.4 with a cpu update which fixes the rattle. I traded the truck in before I found out about it.
dont know if there is an aftermarket solution like this for the 3.5 like the 5.4
