2018 3.5 Ecoboost Cam Phaser Recall - 21N03
Wondering if anyone knows if the cam phasers have been redesigned.... I have no sign of issues with mine, rattles, etc... If they are redesigned I'll get the job done, if not I think I'd rather not have half the engine torn down for no good reason.
Ford claims they did back in late 2019. However, my original phasers went ~25k miles before getting noisy. The “updated” ones only went 5k miles before becoming even noisier than the originals. My 2nd “updated” set is still quiet after 10k now, but I have zero faith in the updated design as I know a few other trucks that developed noisy phasers with the updated version.

Had the initial 21B10 done on my '18 king ranch in july. 15K miles. Just recived a letter from Ford saying that some owners, who are still having the rattle on a cold start should bring it in. I'm one of them, although it's intermittant, and not happening every time (like before). Anyway, the dealer is asking me to bring it in for a diagnostic before Ok'ng the next repair. We'll see what they find, but it still does rattle occasionally. Not a sound that I ever like to hear when turning over.
