Default 2018 3.5 Ecoboost Cam Phaser Recall - 21N03

I just had my truck in for service last week and had the Cam Phaser Recall Done a few days ago, which of I'm not mistaken was a simple software update. I see now on the Ford Pass app that there is a Cam Phaser Replacement Recall 21N03 so I guess I'm headed back to the dealer again?? Anyone know anything about this recall??

It is extended support to replace the cam phasers in the event of a failure

Thanks TM. I was kind of concerned about doing this one since it's a lot more involved and often times, they go to fix one thing and in the process they break another...

I guess I'll wait this one out since I don't have any rattle and it sounds like if I eventually do, it will be covered.

concerning the phasers everyone needs to stop assuming their's are going to fail until there is a failure. Ford has stepped up and offered extended support if they do fail provided you have 21B10 performed prior to 8/31/21.

I know you are in the industry, so I trust your opinion. You always have very accurate information when you post here.

So are you saying that there are lots of 3.5's that never develop the phaser rattle? I guess I was under the impression that this is a widespread problem, and I have even read on here that people have had them done 2 or 3 times.

For me, I own a 2017, and my father in law has the same truck. We both had the rattle and both replaced under warranty. We were talking about how even though it is fixed, it seems like it will be a problem long term, and once the warranty runs out we will be on the hook to pay for the repair.

Also, Ford says it doesn't hurt anything. So in theory we could just not fix it? Or maybe there are aftermarket replacements we could install that would make the fix permanent?

Appreciate your thoughts.

I have over 200 in my fleet and have had 3 failures.

Conversely, my personal F150 had a failure at 1,813 miles and had to have the phasers replaced. Fortunately, the latest phasers were installed.

This could be the best news I've gotten all month. Question for anyone aware, are rebuilt/salvage title trucks eligible for this? Typical service posts include that verbiage but I'm not able to find it. I have all of the parts needed for this job already purchased but I would love more than anything to NOT do this myself. Anyone?

I have one in my fleet and it is currently sitting at the dealership getting the cam phasers replaced for the 3rd time.

So I'm at 87500 miles on my 17. Getting the 21b10 fix today. I know the rattle will persist after since I have had it for 25k miles. Think I should have them replace the water pump while they are in there? They gotta take it off anyway. Plan to keep this truck till about 200k miles.
