2018 3.5 Ecoboost Cam Phaser Recall - 21N03
Hi all,
I'm new here. I have a 2018 F150 Sport with the 3.5L engine. My truck has about 91,500 miles on it. I just got the truck back from the dealer after having the cam phasers replaced. I drove it home from the dealership (about 10 miles) and parked it in the driveway. I smelled antifreeze when I got out of the truck and found a pool of it under the truck. I checked the radiator and hoses and nothing. I called the dealership and had them come get the truck. They say the water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. They said it has nothing to do with the cam phaser work. This truck has never leaked a drop of anything before the cam phaser work was done. Does this sound correct? I am going to fight this. I would gladly pay for the part, but the labor should be "eaten" by the dealership.

The Bad: I went to the dealership yesterday to check on the status of my truck since no one had contacted me in over a week, despite several phone messages and an email. Since the Service Manager was able to get the money off the Cam Phaser Bill, he refused to consider the water pump issue as warranty. I called him out when he told me the water pump was not removed, The mechanic at this dealership apparently removes the timing cover with the water pump still attached to it, as not to disrupt the water pump!!! At which time I showed the Service Manager the receipt he gave me for the Cam Phaser work. On the receipt I was charged for a water pump gasket. When I called him on it, he said they charged me for the gasket as it was part of the Service Bulletin Repair and the warranty would not be valid if it wasn't there.
My truck was ready yesterday and despite the lack of common decency of letting me know it was ready, I paid for the repair, so I could get my truck back. I am grateful for the Cam Phaser warranty assist and do not want to come off as ungrateful. But, the Water Pump repair I feel they have taken full advantage of me.The dealership in question is Palm Coast Ford, in Palm Coast, Florida. I will probably email the General Manager and advise him that his Service Department is charging customers for parts they are not putting on vehicles.
Thanks for letting me vent.
I wanted to post an update. First, the good. The Service manager contacted Ford and showed the rep that I am a longtime Ford customer and Ford knocked $1,500 off the Cam Phaser Bill.
