Default 2016 or 2017 pros and cons

I found a 2016 F150 3.5 ecoboost 3.55 gears, max tow, screw, XLT, 302a that I can get about $10,000 off msrp. Using it as a commuter rig and towing a 6500 pound travel trailer about 10% of the miles, what are the pros and cons of buying this vs. the 2017?

'17 3.5 eco has more power and a new 10 speed trans.

The '16 will be cheaper right now.

Well the 17s have a substantially updated 3.5EB and a 10sp transmission.

Yep the 2017 will be more expensive.

Is the new drivetrain something you want? Willing to deal with 1st year bugs in a revised engine and brand new transmission?

If I could stomach the higher price I'd go with the 17. I'm willing to be a beta tester!

I never trust the first 2 years of a major change like motors and transmissions. They can test all they wamt but until its full production and consumer test is the real test. Dont want to be a manufacture tester. That's why I went with my 2016 instead of 17. The body might be only 2 years old but the motor and transmission are not. Plus the money off compared to the 17.

I would recommend NOT getting the first year of a new model...trust me . Lesson learned, never again.

I am in the group that doesn't want to be a beta tester also, although the extra power would be nice. I noticed that the extra torque is at 3500 rpm vs 2500 rpm for the 2016, I think that is better but who knows. I have been looking and thinking for a long time and I have to just dive in sometime.

That's the thing. If you want new you have to jump on board sometime but I just wouldn't do it the first year.

IIRC 10hp more, 70 more torque, and the 10spd. 2mpg better combined, 1mpg increase to both highway and city. I am kind of in the same boat.

I wonder how the teething problems were with the original 3.5EB, 2.7EB, and with the 6spd trany? Might give a good indication on the new combo...

I was in the same boat and just went with a 2016 Platinum. I'll trade up towards a Raptor or something in a year or two.
