I really want to drive a 17 before settling on a 16. I guess I may be in your same predicament... the only thing that really concerns me is the new trans. I have had zero issues with the longevity or performance of my 12 ecoboost and I think gen 2 brings a more well rounded package. Part of me says they would not put the ten speed in the raptor if they where not confident in its ability, the other part of me says they are doing it to increase the take rate.

I know some have had bad experiences with jumping on first year changes; I am up in the air and don't really mind the idea of a first year truck, but I won't be ordering one till I can take a test drive. This will likely be my last truck for some years and I don't want a lot of issues to detract from the enjoyment.

Hopefully they release them soon so I can either jump on a 16 with rebates or order a 17 just how I want it.

'17 will also have AutoStop/Start like the 2.7L, for better or worse.

This alone would make me not buy a 17

I went with a '17 because I really wanted to ten speed. First year production be damned. If something goes wrong it breaks the warranty will cover it.

I was offered a 16 in the same trim and spec'd exactly the way that I wanted it for about 16-17k off msrp. I also wanted the 17 because I was not going to be able to take delivery until after the new year and knew I could get one delivered hot off the press right around the time I would need it.

I was in the same boat, bought the exact truck you're looking at, a 2016.

I didn't want to be the guinea pig for a redesigned engine and all new transmission.

If you're towing 6500lbs, you're not going to need the extra HP or TQ the 2017 offers. The 2016 has tons of power.

Last weekend I towed 12,000lbs from Tennesse to Ontario (1200km), no issues with power. Towed 62MPH, 6th gear and got 21.7L/100KM (10.8MPG).

The hardest part was stopping, not the get up and go.

How can you tow 12,000 pounds without being severely over payload and other capacities? Way, way, over.

I solved the problem and did a dealer order for a 2016 SuperCrew, XLT, 4x4, Max Tow, 3.5 Eco Boost and 302A. Should be here next week. Thanks for the confirmation of my thoughts.

I probably would have taken one for 17k under msrp and resold it.......

What are you paying for the '17?

Maybe. I'm not sure what weights I would be over, tow rating is 11,700. Payload is 1,900lbs.

We put the truck on backwards to keep the weight off the tongue. Used a good WDH.

It was closer to 11,000lbs I guess

Trailer - 3,500lbs
Truck - 7,500lbs

I really thought about it but I am currently overseas and can't get the truck delivers here, and didn't want to store it until I got there. And just didn't want to deal with buying and then selling right after.

I was able to get it for 46k. After taxes, After shipping to Alaska, bumper to bumper extended warranty for 6 years, Ziebart protection package. And the option to upgrade in 2 years for zero more a month and zero down. In addition, no payments for 3 months.

Not the best deal but I will take it.
