Default Two Wire Taillight Problems

So I am replacing the 3 wire recessed trailer lights ON MY TRUCK (which had a ground and separate light for tail and and turn/stop signal. 3 wires total.)

I have a wood bed with cutout lights. These are using the truck wiring. (95 XL)

I have a two wire light. I have the what I believe to be the turn signal/brake wire connected to the green, and the taillight wire connected to the black.

The Problems:
  • When I use the turn signal, it blinks fast, so something is wrong.
  • When I press on the brake, the light goes out.
What am I missing?

You're missing a wire.

What do you mean? The green wire from the truck should be turn and stop right?

You need the 4 wire plug for trailer lights if you want blinkers and running lights. They aren't that expensive. Should be a ground wire, left turn/brake, right turn/brake, and running lights.

There is no black. Green, yellow, brown and white. Your two wire light has a single filament bulb and you need a double.

I started on the right light first. I have ground to chasis (black), right turn/brake (green) to black on light, tail (Brown to green on light). I HAVE NOT done the left light (it is still using the 3 wire led.) Could this be the problem?

My trailer ground wire is white. Not sure on my trucks. But yellow and green should be your turn/brake lights and the brown should be the running lights IIRC. It's been a while since I've rewired my trailer.

Just to clarify. This is wiring on my truck. I have them installed on a custom wood bumper.

This is a quick cheat for the trailer side.
