the tranny, i have no idea. the clutch thing sounds like it just needs adjusted. look under the dash at it, on the one i did, you just screw the shaft down so its shorter and engages sooner.

Have you checked the condition and level of the Mercon ATF fluid? The noise you are talking about... Is there rough engagement changing gears (synchronizers) and/or do you only hear sounds while in one gear? What does it sound like, how loud is it? Make sure the fluid doesn't look dark and there is no sign of the trans leaking underneath. Improper shifter linkage adjustment could give problems as well, does each synchronizer (gear) engage smoothly with the engine off/clutch in? What about when it's running?

I think you have the Mazda M50D 5-speed transmission if i'm not mistaken.

as for the fluid looks good not dark it makes the noise in 1 2 3 and 5th the sound is like a whining and and gets louder as you accelerate appears to shift smooth running or off no binding if linkage is adjustable how would i go about that?

The clutch is not adjustable. Plenty of other good suggestions though.

Gears 1-3 are underdriven, 4th is direct drive and 5th is overdriven. Interesting how the only gear thats 1:1 is not whining...

If all gears were whining, it could be the output shaft bearings but since 4th is fine, that is ruled out.

I'd say bleeding the master cylinder would be an "adjustment," so to speak.
