The repair manual has a special very specific, many step procedure, for all of these trucks that works beautifully but it is still a pain in the *****.

The M5OD (also known as the M5R2) is a light duty transmission. If it is making noise then it is time to find another or rebuild the one you have. I'm on my third. The next time I will swap in a ZF.

ok thanks for all the info i found the problem went to look at the rod to see if it was adjustable and it's not but it was almost off it was just hanging there i dont know how it didnt pop off but it's all better now as for the tranny guess i'll start looking for another one and someone mentioned the p/s whining i know a little trick at least it worked for me on an older one i drained the fluid and filled half way with tranny fluid and then topped it off with trans magic dont know if they still sell it or not it was about 10yrs ago and the whining when away and never had a problem with just to let you know
