Default Timing bump

I want to do a timing bump on my 1995 302 but don't want to spend money on a timing light I'll never use again.. So is there a way I can check the timing without a timing light? Thanks.

$500 Snap On diagnostic scanner.. Other than that, idk. There might be other scanners but it's cheaper to get the timing light or you might be able to borrow/rent one.

Why would you never use it again? You're supposed to check the timing fairly regularly.

No you can't check timing without a timing light. That would be like guessing how much gas to put in your tank. You might be close but you sure aren't going to guess exact.

I think advanced auto rents them or some other tool company or you can go to a shop to test it or get a friends one.

If you want to improve performance, you need the timing light.

This includes "How to", for upgrading your ignition system to allow increasing your plug gap size also, in addition to "just bumping".

This discusses all aspects

Do it right...or don't do it at all!

You're not pissin w/ the puppies doing a timing bump. Your going to be asking more of your engine than the factory intended you to. This is not to dissuade you from doing it. I followed the links instructions (actually, I wrote the second link). I did mine about 4 years ago & loved the results ever since. A very popular mod, & lots of the guy's here have done it w/ good results. However you're kinda scaring me. You can F/U your engine...No Timing light?
Whatever you do, do it w/ stock Coppercore Plugs (Motorcraft or Autolite). No Plats!!!

I have yet to do my timing bump for lack of time/supplies, but the first link ymeski provided is the same one I first read about it from. I'd trust it completely and follow it to a T.
