It's probably the solenoid. Start with checking & cleaning it's connections

today i got in an cranked it an the starter stayed engaged while running i turned the key off an it was still trying to start the truck. took the starter off an it ate the teeth on the starter not the flywheel. so i replaced it an the solenoid an wired it up the way it was when i took it off an i attempted to crank it an did the same thing so i ran over an pulled the battery cable off. rechecked everything an was good. i touched the positive cable to the battery post an it tryed cranking itself again. the key wasnt in the ignition. im stumped

The positive battery cable is getting very hot, fusing the solenoid together. Next time it happens give the solenoid a good whack with a wrench or something and it will stop, and check how hot the cable is.

It must be too melted together now. You'll need to get a new solenoid. I replaced my cables but I had to use a double positive to make it stop sticking.

If you pull the small wire from the ignition switch off the (S) terminal of the solenoid, & it's still turning the starter, the Solenoid's fried. If it stops (w/ key in "off" position) when you pull the wire, your Ignition switch is not disengaging or is fried.

When the solenoid fries, it's usually excessive amperage draw somewhere throughout cable circuit. could be POS cables, &/or NEG cable returning to BATT. Upgrade sizes.

Some have reduces excessive AMP draw by doubling connector cables.
