Default starter keeps going

hello everyone.

got a problem, the starter won't shut off when the key is in the off position. Whats this sound like to anybody. I am wondering if it is the ignition switch? Already changed the starter and solenoid.

The solenoid may be sticking, or you may have got some wires switched around on the solenoid when you replaced it.

The solenoid is most likely sticking. Many have fixed it by changing the battery cables with really good ones. I just added another positive on mine to fix it. So now I have two positive cables.

Pull the signal wire off of the solenoid. The signal wire is the top 16 gauge wire, usually held on with a friction connection. This will determine if it is the switch or the solenoid. If removing the wire kills the starter motor than you have a bad switch or wires, if it does nothing then the solenoid is bad.

His solenoid is new. It's most likely the cable.

Default re: starts on its own

Hello everyone, I now am able to start the truck without a key just with the battery. As mentioned I wasn't sure if it was the switch or not. The actuator rod is not broken, the starter and solenoid are new. so does anybody have any other ideas. cables seem fine too! I have an ignition switch #E7TA-11572-AA I would like to test it with a multi meter. I am pretty sure I tested it right. But would like any help if possible in case I overlooked something.

Did you pull the solenoid trigger wire coming from the ignition? Does that stop the starter from engaging?

You can't judge the condition of the cables by looking at them. Lots of others have come here with the same problem and most fixed it with new cables. Do a search if you don't believe me. I went through this crap already myself, changing the starter 6 times, solenoid 8 times. The cable fixed it.

Hmmm... does this mean I was actually right for once! WEEEEEEEE!!!! yeah mE!!!!!!

I digress.

yeah, if you pull the little wire off the solenoid and it keeps going, solenoid is bad. Replace it and your battery to solenoid and solenoid to starter wires or at least ADD an additional wire in each of those locations and all will be right with the world again.
