You should definately change the fuel filter ($8 part, takes 10 minutes). Pull the air intake off, replace the air filter, pull the IAC valve, clean it with some carb/throttle-body cleaner, clean the throttle-body while you have the IAC off (and plastic from the airbox cover assembly)... then, reset the PCM, which i am currently researching 'how-to', but i believe, you just disconnect the negative from the battery for about 10minutes...

Cleaner & airbox, shouldn't run you more that $20, plus 30/60min to dis/re-assemble, and clean everything. On my I6, there's like 4screws on the airbox, 2 clamps on the throttle-body connecting the airbox, and 2 bolts on the IAC.

^--- what he said might also check for codes first.

And I think you can hold down the break to speed the EEC reset up. batt disconnected.

I knew a guy with a similar issue, on his, it'd stay running, as long as you hold the key and burn up the starter, once you let the key go to the run position, it'd kill. For him, it was just a bad starter switch. I'd definitely run codes on it though.

If you don't know how to retrieve codes, this thread will show you how to do it for free with a jumper wire and the check engine light.

You just have to love paperclips ! Also, there is a tool that you can buy that does all that for you, and it comes with a code book for around $30 from O'Reilly's. I know they have one, I work there, and I bought it for mine.
