Default 87 acceleration problems

My 87 is having problems accelerating. It idles fine and can accelerate through 1st(or low) and a bit of second. The moment I push the pedal down significantly, the truck decelerates and wants to call it quits. Any advice? Timing? Fuel injector? Exhaust? although, exhaust sounds fine.
I really have no idea. Please help!
Aloha,
HB

Nice looking truck... when was the last time it had a tune-up? plugs, wires, cap, button. Might just be that the button is fouled ($4 part; 5 minutes to change).

Can you feel a definite pulse at the exhaust pipe with the engine idling? If it's more of a smooth flow coming out, it could be a clogged catalytic converter.

Does it do it with either tank? You do have 3 fuel pumps, one in each tank and one on the frame that pressurizes the fuel from either tank. Do a fuel pressure check.

Thanks for the quick replies! The plugs and wires have been changed, it has never had a tune up since I got it. I recently just got it back up and running, after sitting for a year or so. I just got it back from the shop where they did a front end alignment and cleaned and repacked the bearings, did a coolant flush, and replaced the studs up front. So, now it handles better. I can't tell you if it happens with both tanks, the switch in the cab doesn't work. No switching tanks, and the fuel gauge doesn't work. I did check the fuel line for clogs, but I think I need to get some injector cleaner. I have not checked the flow of exhaust, I'll do that tomorrow. I'm selling this truck, and just want to be comfortable handing over. Although, she needs one more trip to the beach....lava style!

If its been sitting for a year i'm gonna say its fuel related. It probably had some old gas in it. fuel filter, and maybe some fuel injection cleaner, and a tank of fresh fuel needs to be run through it.

Thanks. It's a shame I gotta sell it. I used it to haul DJ equipment to the beaches over here.
