Default No start!

okay let me start off by saying the truck did run very strong,

little information about the truck
1989 ford f150 lariat
302 5.0 V-8 mpfi system

it all started when mom started the truck pulled it into reverse, the truck died within seconds, truck will not start back, i went down and checked the truck out, heres what i found

upon starting the engine cranks but doesnt start

i pulled the ignition module and had autozone test it, they said that the ignition module is good

the fuel pump is priming loudly when trying to start

pulled the coil wire from distributor and tried spark plug,
found fire from coil

pulled wire from number 1, no fire, removed and replaced the distributor cap and the rotor button, retested the system, found the number one spark plug now has fire,

tried starting the truck again, the truck still will rotate but not start, im thinking the truck may have jumped timing, could it be possible, why would it jump, how would i go about checking it.

please give me a hand guys i would greatly appreciate it.

Check fuel pump relay. There's two pumps, you'll here the one in the tank prime, but it won't start. Relay is under the hood near washer fluid bottle, will be marked "fuel pump". It's right next to the EEC plug in.

why would you think it would be a fuel problem?

Spray starting fluid into intake and try to start. If no start, then recheck for spark at plugs. If spark is there, then yes, it could have jumped time. Get back to us with results and if checking valve timing is needed.

I've had the mystery no start thing on several of these trucks over the years, and 9 out of 10 times it's been that relay. I've even done as little as remove the relay, tap it on the fender a few times, and replace it just to have the truck fire right up. How bad was your cap and rotor? Any chance there was a weak spark before? You obviously know what you're doing, but this is a cheap thing to rule out. Local pick and pull auto wrecker has about 40 of these trucks and today 3 of them still had the relay in them. They go all the time, I carry a spare just in case. No guarantees that it's your problem, but try it just in case.
P.S. The relays don't like cold weather once they're a few years old. Moisture?

thanks for the information, ill give it a try and see what happens, i should have thought of the starting fluid, we do that to the trucks at freightliner all the time, if it runs we are missing fuel, if it dont and has spark obviously it doesnt have any compression due to bad rings on the pistons or the valves overlapping or ie timing, i know on chevrolet they have problems with overheating ignition modules but this is my moms truck im trying to fix for her, ill give the relay a check i didnt know they had a bit of trouble with those, if at all it is relatively cheap i seen one at autozone.com for 9.99

also i forgot to mention that the truck is a long bed truck with dual fuel tanks if that helps.

If it is fuel, could be the fuel tank selector as well. I've never had problems with one, but others on here have. Just sayin'.

Lot of reasonable alternatives to jumping a timing chain mentioned. A KOEO error code scan would help.

Just came home to grab something. Shut truck off, ran inside, come out and the truck won't start. Did nothing but change that relay and she fired right up. Pays to keep a spare.

okay here is the latest update

today i tried again to get the truck running
i replaced the fuel pump relay, i still havent performed a KOEO test, i took the air cleaner tubing off and shot some either into the tubes to no help,

ive noticed that when the truck is being cranked over it just cranks over but when the key is released it seems like the truck has little bit of a bump to it like its trying to start

ive also noticed that before the fuel pump did not make noise, now im getting a bright fuel pump sound, does anyone suppose that the fuel filter could be plugged up.

also i retested the spark and am getting bright blue sparks from the plug.
