To answer your question, NO. A faulty or nearly faulty pip module can "sometimes" produce spark. Even though you had spark it may have been insuffcient. On most Fords, it will do what you said it was doing. Never start, then start and run, then never start, then start and run. Eventually, it just won't start. Sometimes they'll even fail at certain temps, i.e. ->> once the engine warms up, the truck shuts off.
