You said starter fluid didn't make a difference. I'll suggest a failing PIP sensor as a topic for discussion.

a buddy from ford suggested that by us trying repeatedly to get the truck started we may have loaded the cylinders with raw fuel and it fowled the plugs and that we may need to install a new set of plugs,

ive read from a couple of sites that the pip sensor would = a no fire condition, im getting fire from my coil and a bright blue spark from a sparkplug installed into the #1 sparkplug wire and grounded.

i dont know much about pip its just what ive read so if anyone seems to think im wrong on that please correct me.

Don't feel bad I've got a 88 doing the same thing. However occasionally it will run for about 30 seconds then die again.

yeah, but i cant get this thing to run at all no 30 seconds no nothing, it isnt cutting me any slack.
Im hoping that if i can get a KOEO test done and pull some codes maybe it will help.

my 88 is in just about the same condition. I am 90% sure though that there is something wrong with teh wiring harness because the guy who owned it before got happy with the wire cutters before he sold it to me and wondered why it didnt run

http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=25 Because the PIP sensor (stator pick up) is located in the distributor & requires it's removal, some people just replace the whole distributor. If that's the problem. What fuel pressure were you showing? KOEO results now?

ive been thinking the truck was running good with a little rattle comming from the front of the engine, my theory that im going to test this weekend is that maybe the timing chain is junk, the truck ran good slipped a tooth and shut off, i ended up working on it, replacing a couple of things and then turning the distributor, the truck started and ran great for a monthplus, all the sudden bam the truck shuts off again, im going to try turning the dist. again and see if the truck starts, if it does im thinking the timing chain is slipping a tooth or the gear at the bottom of the dist is damaged.

I doubt it. But if you replace your distributor, it will take care of a BAD PIP sensor. KOEO error code scans? PIP sensor failure should show up as a continuous memory code.

yeah but a bad pip sensor would cause no spark wouldnt it?

I mean its probably way over due for a timing set and adjustment, the truck i believe has rolled over on the odometer and now has 80,000 miles on it im thinking.

When you say pip sensor your talking about the contact setup in the dist. that connects to the ignition module correct.
