Default negative battery cable

hey guys,
I have an '89 F150 4x4 4.9L. I'm replacing the starter and the negative battery cable. Starter is on but the negative cable has two leads from the battery post and needs to be about 4.5-5ft in length. I cannot find any with the two leads and I was wondering if it will do any harm if I cut the two leads and attach them to a cable with only one. The guy at the parts store said it would be fine since they are both grounds, but he did sell a cable that is about a 1.5ft too short. I can't find this cable anywhere, I've even used the part no. with no success.
thanks guys

All you need to do is cut the two leads and crimp some ring terminals on them (#10 yellow term with 5/16 or 3/8 stud eyes). Attach them under the nut, or the bolt head on the batt terminal. You may need to extend the wires to reach. Just use a couple of yellow butt splices and short pieces of wire. God luck, you can get the ring terminals and butt splices in small packs of 5 or so at any auto parts store. (wal-mart and any hardware store also. Here's a pic-- party on--

You can do both into one or extend them like alaskafunboy says.

LMCtruck sells a cable of the correct length. Thats where I got mine. I bought a new secondary lead from the parts store. The cable that fits is 65 inches from LMCtruck. When you replace the cable make sure to sand rust off of anywhere the cables attach to.
