it probably uses brake fluid. been trying to fix a ranger clutch that ran out of fluid. at the least it takes a lot of patience and work. google for a clutch bleed and see what you get. good luck

mine called for automatic fluid don't remember exact. Weird I know for being a manual. I just drained it and then found it easier to take off the shifter and dump it in instead.

You have brake fluid in the clutch and auto tranny fluid in gearbox.

Dextron/Mercon automatic transmission fluid. Get the clutch kit, or be cheap like me and just change the disc.

When I did mine I had a problem getting the old pilot bearing out of the flywheel, so what I did was load it up with grease on the inside and then take a 1/2"-3/8" adapter on an extension and slide it in the pilot bearing and hit it with a 2lb hammer and it popped the bearing out. Also get 2 gallon jugs on trans fluid mine took a little over a gallon.

Well, to be honest, I'm not sure of the problem. The scenario is we stopped at a stop sign, pushed the pedal down to shift to first, the pedal would not come back up at its own will, but you can lift it back up. I see what i believe is brake fluid on the bottom of the bellhousing. So I'm not sure if the clutch is out, the slave cylinder, or master. Maybe you can help diagnose? There was no fluid in the master cylinder after i checked it. I'm not sure if the flywheel needs to be replaced or not either. Any more help is greatly appreciated, as this is our only vehicle at the moment.

find where the leaks coming from first. if you got owners manual check that for the fluid. i'm pretty sure most use brake fluid for the truck, fill it, and find where its coming out

Fluid from the bellhousing, the slave is leaking. Replace it, which means you'll be removing the transmission. If you want to spend the extra money and not have to do it later then replace the clutch while the transmission is out. Get the clutch kit, which comes with everything you need except the flywheel. The flywheel can be resurfaced usually or you can just buy a new one.

Like I said, I just changed my slave and clutch disc only. I didn't resurface the flywheel, but I don't really care if I have to take out the transmission again. I've done it like 8 times.
