Default f150 steering box

I am replacing the steering box in my 89 F150 with a reman ac delco box which I have been told is the equivalent of the motorcraft unit at half the price.Has anyone had experience with this box. What is the best fluid to use in the new box can I use a synthetic fluid
ps:please forgive me for blaspheming by using the ac word on a Ford F150 forum.
Thanks
Mike

You'd be amazed at what parts some of us use. I have zero brand loyalty. I use what works the best.

My truck has the Saginaw power steering pump, way better than the Ford one.

You get what you pay for holds true in this case. If you plan to keep the truck longer than 5 years get the Ford box.

Fluid = Automatic transmission, it's the same as power steering fluid it just has dye added to make it red. Newer units require specific types but not for what you have.

There's a reason the vans got the "GM" style Saginaw pump. Just because something has Ford stamped on it doesn't necessarily mean it is better. Most of the time, yes, but not always.

I think the P/S pumps have been a weak spot in Ford p/u's for almost as long as I can remember. For this generation Truck anyway. That being said, I think a switch to synthetic would be beneficial. But he's referring to his box.

Saginaw pump sounds like a nice setup. I always wonder what year van has the correct bracket and pump..
