Default Which engine

Well guys I'm Wanting to get a 92-96 f150 and I'm wondering which engine I should be looking for. Most of the trucks I see are 5.8s. Is the 5.8 the best? Mpg isn't a very big concern to me I'm more interested in reliability and power. Also I'm wondering which trans is the most bullet proof as well. Thanks for your input.

a lot of people say the I6 and 5 speed is the most reliable but power wise I think you cant go wrong with a well taken care of 351 ive had the 5.0 for over a year now and its been reliable and enough power for what I needed it for but im about to swap in a 351 here soon

My 302 is going strong. Everything else around it is failing, but the engine itself is great.

I'm pretty good at cracking heads on my 4.9.

I have a the 4.9 300 big six. she isnt much for speed, but if you want bulletproof its renowned for that. Im sitting at 276,000 roughly on my od. she has the mazda 5 speed standard transmission and its 4x4 to. i have had to do alot of work to it, but most of the work had nothing to do with the engine, mostly had to do with the front end of my pickup. i love my rig

I have a 92 / 351w auto 4x4 180k miles, can't complain. Engine cranks up like new. I would say its reliable and strong. I have overloaded the bed more than once and the engine didn't complain a bit. It's very very thirsty, MPG's are laughable.

On the other hand we had an I6 5 speed at work with god only knows how many miles (odo was broken for years) that 30+ different idiots beat the living tar out of daily. It just kept on running. Trust me, that truck went to hell and back several times!

If you don't care about MPGs get a EFI 460 they are rare but out there.

But if not 351W is better for the power. I6 is more reliable. Most people with the 302 complain about power.

All depends on what your doing with your truck and how much money your have to spend.

Best Trans hands down is the C6.

I run a 351W C6 combo in my trail rig backed with 4.10s and 35s I can go anywhere. But this combo kills me in fuel

I've got an 86 f250 with the 460. I absolutely love it. That's my mud toy/hunting truck.

I'm lookin for an f150 to daily drive. What kind of mpgs are you guys getting out of the 351s? I'm used to daily driving on around 11 mpg from my 03 5.4 f150(wantin to get rid of it due to loving this body style) but if the 351 gets around the same as the 460 I may get a nicer 250.
