Default 302

Recently I had to put my 1990 F150 with a 351w to rest. My new truck is a 1992 F150 Xlt and only has a 302.. I don't really want to drop in a different motor since the 302 is from Roush and has only 35,000 miles on it. But are there any ways to beef it up a little without having to rebuild the entire engine?

i don't know how much Horse power the 302 puts out but i have a feeling your going to need a supercharger with a total engine rebuild from the camshaft up. i think it would be cheaper to find a 351 and drop it in with a few mods to get the 400 hp. you would be trying to double the output on that engine it can be done but its going to cost some major $$$

Im not sure the exact horsepower that the 351 was putting out but it was nowhere near 400HP I'd say low 200's probably maybe 225 or a little more I think it's the torque difference your noticing which also might be your gear ratio what's the axle code?

the 351w puts out about 200 hp? or so while the 351C puts out about 250?
so ether way getting 400 hp is going to cost you its not going to be extremely had just expensive. some bolt on headers will ad about 50hp then a performance set of injectors or carb another 50-75 depending on how high you want to go. and so on.

your 90 5.8 had 210 hp your new 92 5.0 has 185 hp stock. first id sea foam the engine and it should get a little more pick up and go. but to hit 400 hp your guna have to spend a good amount on it. new cams exhaust ecu tuners. or turbos and chargers if you got some cash burning a hole in your pocket about a year ago i was guna try getting my 96 302 to 300 hp but found out that it required more money and work then i felt like putting into it. 230 is good enough for me though.
