Default Engine performance

How can i get more horsepower out of my 300.6 4.9? I put in a cold air intake system from k&n and also done a poweraid throttle body spacer. It has a brand new tune up with taylor wires and new spark plugs .

Any suggestions??

Yea. Put a 351 in it.

Aside from the stuff youve already done, theres probably nothing much else considerable you can do to amp it up from where its at. Aside from, of course, a bigger engine.

The 300 engine is really designed to produce a lot of low end torque, and it does that really well. It doesn't really lend itself to producing a lot of power without spending a lot of money.

I agree with that one . The only thing i had thought anout doing was changing the gears from 3.08 to 3.55 but that would kill my mpg

Highway mpg would suffer. Around town it would probably improve somewhat.

get the exhaust manifolds off an efi 300, just as good as headers and a 10th the price. other than spending 400-600 on a new intake/carb, theres been a number of people that have ground down the stock intake in order to fit a 2bbl carb, and filled any gaps with that putty/metal compound. after that, pricing continues to increase, get a head off of an old 240 inline six which will increase compression ratio and power output. and last would be a performance camshaft. and i read once about a guy who put a turbo on his (completely custom job)

sure, the 300 is a great engine, and can produce HUGE amounts of torque and HP, but stock it just can't breath well enough. without opening the engine up all you can do is allow it to suck more in, and push more out. the manifolds from the efi 300 let it exhaust better, you can even split off the pipes and have dual exhaust. thats the cheapest thing you can do and it will improve performance slightly. but again, 4bbl carb and performance cam can really make that engine powerfull ($$$$)
