Hmm that is a good place to put them but I didn't really know where to mount the ballasts so I just went my own route instead of using the bracket.

I mounted my passenger side ballast to the bolt that holds the horn on. Its completely out of sight. Mounted the driver side one to the back side of my CAI box with a set of self-tapping metal screws. You can see that side when you open the hood, but I hid the wires in a wire wrap so it doesn’t look that bad.

I'd thought about those but didn't have anywhere to mount them. They don't make light bars for my year. I'm working on buying a brushguard with some lights on it right now though. I may convert the off roads lights to HID and go back to halogen headlights

No. The stock wiring harness cannot support the voltage that HID ballasts demand to ignite the xenon gas bulbs. This shortage causes 1 of two things: more often then not, the ballast is starved of power and after a while they just die (premature failure). Or, in rare cases, the wiring harness can catch fire and your truck goes bye bye.

To avoid all this, you need to run a dedicated wiring harness direct from the battery. You can get pre-made HID wiring harnesses pretty cheap (10 bucks) on ebay. Take the time to do it right and protect your investment.

Default Best for 2011's

Ok, I have read it all and I would like a few of you all to just narrow this down. First, I would like to hear from the 2011 owners who have modified their lights and what you used, what worked and what didn't, etc. I read a lot of good options in this thread but it was hard to tell what year of truck you were doing it to.

HID's sound like something I would like if it is fairly easy to install and do the work myself. I was never big on doing this kind of stuff but I am diving right in but I don't want to screw anything up. I read all about the whole retrofitting and projectors stuff and it sounds like unchartered waters that I may not be the man for the job.

Also, I read all the drama about people installing HID's and blinding people, etc. I am open to something good outside of HID's, like Silverstar Ultra's, etc. if anyone has any good experience with lights other than HID's.

Alright, I will open it up now for suggestions. Thanks for all the feedback everybody!

From what I hear about SilverStar bulbs, they burn out faster than oem bulbs.

yeah a brushguard is the easy way to mount off road lights, but i've seen trucks like your year model custom mount them to the front bumper. It would be a little harder and you'd have to get creative but it'd look good. But if you can get the brushguard that's a much easier option
