I would not mind attempting a retrofit kit, but the instructions on this web site look a bit daunting. I was hoping for something decent that was more plug and play, although I realize I probably may have to mount some ballasts...

Go to the link below and scroll down the page. They have two sets of F150 projector headlights with HIDs for $700 a pair. Much better than the $1600 you mentioned earlier.

ok I read half of these 93 pages and about a dozen other posts.... someone find me a company that sells plug and play already manufactured HID lights with halos around the light housing AND a LED strip around the edge of the bowl or going from the HID light towards the grill in a straight line.

I cant find anything like this anywhere except the Chinese crap that everyone seems to agree are a waste of money.

I know a site called protuninglabs.com has stuff like that, but again it might be China stuff. But I think everything that's a plug and play is

And you won't unless you find someone selling an already completed retrofit with the items you are describing. Having owned the cheap Chinese garbage and now a quality retrofit, a retrofit is the only way I would go.

Doesnt exist. You're never going to find them. It's custom built or Chinese, that's it.

Bilinvic makes them, I know there's others here that make them - but they don't sell them as if they were sitting on the shelf ready to ship out - doesn't work that way. They're made to order.

Ortoch, I found a guy in Houston (where I live) that was super helpful to me because I'm on the same quest as you. He told me:

Factory HIDs out of a 2013 will pale in comparison to what I had in my BMW 550 and what I have in my wife's Lexus and my weekend toy, a Porsche Boxster. In fact, he said some guys say the 2013 HIDs from Ford are not as bright as factory halogens!

He commented that the least expensive way to go would be to retrofit a halogen housing and paint the interior reflector to update the look. The most expensive way to go about an upgrade would be to buy 2013 HID housings and have him replace the projectors, bulbs, ballasts, and then install trim lighting per my request.

BTW, he was all around cheaper than the Retrofit Source and listed on their web site as a local installer...

I think it's worth the time to contact him and peruse his pages.

Whoever said OEM HIDs aren't brighter than OEM halogens must have never seen HIDs, or is lying to you.

I've owned both, OEM halogen and now OEM HID, and, yes, as common sense would tell you, the HIDs are noticeably brighter than halogen. Its not even close.

If you wanna believe your friend, that's cool, but he's probably a lot less intelligent than you've been lead to believe if he thinks stock halogen outperformed stock HID.

Also, if you want to use sub par components in your retro, by all means, go ahead - I chose quality - and for 2 years now haven't had a single issue. What components does that guy use? Brands of ballasts and bulbs?

Does he sell any bulb that is 8000k or higher?

All very good points. There is no comparison on HID vs halogens. HID wins hands down. I can speak from direct experience, not only are the components important in a retro, but the quality and knowledge of the person doing the work is equally valid. You can have the best components available and still get an inferior product from the hands of an inexperienced retrofitter.
