Looking through old threads. It appears you have almost the same truck as me except I have it in Race Red 5.0 and HD tow. I have a 1990 Load Capacity. 63# difference from 10 gallons extra gas for you. So 24# extra for the extra tank metal and EB engine apparently.

Wow I thought my payload was low! How can you have such a low payload and tow package? I thought the 2.7L with tow package had a much higher payload and GVWR.

Tow packages don't change payload or GVWR (none of them).

The 2.7 payload package is what you're thinking of, it brings the 2.7 trucks up to the 3.5/5.0 level IIRC (+400). Then there is of course HDPP (heavy duty payload package) that can +800 the lower trim 5.0/3.5 trucks

It's my daily driver. Well it was before COVID-19 hit. After driving a 5.4L Triton V8 for 19 years, my goals at this point in my life are fuel economy, the utility of a 1/2 ton truck, and I can still haul a modest to decent camper for a family of 4 + 2 dogs on occasion. It's also good incentive to keep up at the gym as pax poundage directly impacts my GCWR/payload/tongue weight capabilities.

And yeah, as blkZ28spt mentioned above, Ford tow packages don't mean sh*t. For instance, I have a tow package and in theory the ability to pull a 7,500lb. trailer, but my truck didn't even come with an electric trailer brake controller (TBC). I believe this limits me to a trailer of 1,200-1,500lbs. or less. IMO the tow package is somewhat pointless should come with a TBC automatically. The TBC only comes standard with the max tow package. So anyway I put the TBC in after I got the truck.

I increased my payload from 1640 to 1702 today by removing the factory installed side steps...whoo hoo!

Bought truck off the lot and it came with them

TBC does NOT come with the heavy duty tow package (53A), it’s extra. TBC only comes included with the Max Tow package (53C) and, IIRC, Lariat packages and above that also include the 53A.
5000# limit is for bumper pull, TBC has nothing to do with it. Any tow package, 53 A,B, or C, would bump you up to 7000# minimum, differential, engine, & wheelbase dependent.
