Payload question
Fords smoke in mirrors a it's finest. All Marketing BS, sorry. If you are wanting to Tow a Trailer, you need to seriously rethink this or it's going to be one hella of a costly mistake.
That truck will be a terrible TV. Everything has it's tradeoffs. If you insist on that much bling to bring the payload down to 1350, sir... stepup to a F250. I wanted Lariat 502a comforts, ordered without some other typical bling and got a MaxTow with 1760 payload. Like I said, everything has its tradeoffs.
Issue is, I need a truck fairly quickly and stock is practically non existent. In a perfect world, I'd order with just what I need but I'm told by dealers not to expect an order before May from the more eager ones and July from the more realistic ones.
Help me better understand though as I'm a novice on this. Beyond the low payload that pretty much wouldn't allow me to have cargo beyond the two of us, what would make this truck terrible?

So if you are limited to 18,400 GCWR every option you add to the truck erodes this number. It is a give and take, when you get up into the Limited and Platinum trims the curb weight has crept up so much that there simply isn't much left in payload. That is how payload is calculated. You take the GCWR, subtract the weight of the truck with a full tank of gas and the left over is payload.

HDPP is limited to XLT Mid of its three levels or below trims, at least since 2019.
Just this year, 2021, Ford changed its towing guide to reflect adding the 150# passenger required by that SAE standard towing test, I don’t recall if they have addressed the 70# WDH portion.
I know well how easy it can be to confuse yourself when writing similar stuff OVER and OVER. BUT...you shifted from GCWR into GVWR in the quote above. As you well know, I’m sure, GVWR minus curb weight (as delivered from the factory with a full tank included as a known value) leaves Load Capacity. GCWR minus that same curb weight but now also 300# of driver/one passenger leaves Towing Capacity.
Normally I trust pretty much whatever you or Ricktwuhk say when it comes to loads and towing, but I had to jump in here for other readers ;(
So to play this back to you to make sure I understand, Ford gives you 150# for the driver and then whatever the yellow sticker says is over and above the 150#?
The yellow sticker does not include person(s) in the vehicle.
Ignore everything but the yellow sticker. That payload is how much you can load in the truck. "Load" is people, their stuff, the wdh, and the weight of the trailer's tongue. Plus any mods you made to the truck.
So, you buy a new truck, and you excitedly order 30 pounds of floor mats, you go and get the bed sprayed with Line-x (40 - 70 lbs), and you add a tonneau cover (50 - 70lbs for a hard cover). Let's call that 125 additional pounds.
Payload minus 125 - weight of every single person in the truck - weight of all pets - weight of everything these people bring in the truck with them - weight of everything you load in the bed - weight of WDH (70 - 100).
Take what's left and divide by 0.13 for 13% tongue weight and you have the max LOADED trailer you can tow.
That's right. Platinum Hybrid. A dealer has it in stock. In a perfect world, I'd go Lariat Hybrid custom ordered with few options. I believe I'd be around 1600 payload from what I gather. However, that's 12 weeks to wait. Need it faster.
Am with you, the hybrid payload is disappointing. They have the power to tow heavier trailers but it falls apart, it would seem, on payload.
