max acceptable sustained trans temp?
Hello. I'm driving a stock 2016 Lariat SuperCrew short bed with a 3.5L EB and max tow package (not HDPP). The rated payload is ~1725#. I used FORScan to change the transmission temp gauge to display the digits above the gauge. I'll be towing a Rockwood Mini-Lite with a GVWR just a shade under 7000#. Everything including tongue weight is within the truck's specs when fully loaded as I will pull it.
What is the maximum acceptable transmission temp on the stock gauge? What is the maximum acceptable sustained temp on the same gauge?
I consider those to be different, e.g., if the temp hits X degrees I need to pull over, now, but even if staying below that I should not drive at X-15 degrees for more than 5 or 10 minutes. If my thoughts about that are misinformed, please advise.
Thanks in advance for your shared wisdom.

This is somewhat what the Senior Ford Tech at my dealership explained to me. These transmissions are designed to operate at above 200 degrees F. Sustained temps between 210-230 degrees is fine and expected for towing or hauling in 100 degree temps. I've seen as high as 225 degrees doing just that in northern NM in mid summer at about 100 degrees outside had no issues. My last trip with temps in the 80's I saw. Sustained temps around 204 and as high as 214. Again no issues.

Not true according to the Ford senior mechanic at the dealership. Also I've experienced higher temps without issues or going into limp mode. However if you can source something from Ford I'd think that would be best.

most peeps around here swear they don't go above 190 towing.... idk about that.... mine stays between 200-230 when towing but i'm also towing close to max load i think....
230-240 seems to be the high end of it and like someone mentioned around 240 is when you might get thrown in limp mode...
