Transmission bypass Valve
2005, 5.4, 154,000 miles. The new (Full rebuild) trans has less than 5,000 on it.
My new transmission has been running a bit warmer than usual. I got stuck in traffic last week and it hit 190.
My question is how necessary is this valve? My truck was pissed and idling higher than normal.
Looking back I can remember that when my friend and I did my timing, after we drove it to see if everything was good, I noticed that the Trans cooler was cold.
Can the guts be removed and the valve body be left installed?
Let me know what you think.

I'm in MN, it's a pretty great thing to have actual control over the trans temp. Utah is a different thing...
Swap the guts, totally worth it.

We have our cold snaps too. January and February we have some weeks where the high is in the 20's. It was working today as when I got home the cooler was warm. But, I didn't hit any traffic and it's only about 70 today.

Keep an eye on the trans temp, if it's regularly above about 150°, it's time to change that thing.

Mine runs at 150 consistently on the open road. Here in Florida on hot days (like today) it will get up to 180-185 sitting in traffic. I thought that was normal.

So far that I can find it's a dealer only part.

Mulestang, mine runs the same, but "hot" here is a month or two a year. I'll see what I can see over the next two weeks.
I plan on installing an external filter on the trans tomorrow. I'll see if that changes anything.

Of course it would be a $60 part. They can charge out the wazoo because only the dealer is carrying it. FWIW, its $63.87 if I select my local dealer.
I also just found it here https://www.onlinefordpartscatalog.com/ for $42 (Full part number is 7L3Z-7H322-A). I should have realized it would have been on the same website I bought the hose for the vapor purge valve to right side intake and left side PCV hose
