Great write-up BlacknBack I'm planning on doing this to my truck very soon. One question, is the camera you bought waterproof? just wondering how it would hold up backing my boat in some lakes with less than adequate, or no, launches.

Thanks!

It should hold up fine. There's nothing protecting it from the rain and snow so i would think it can be submerged.

Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions.

^^Yeah, it's kinda stupid to have a lock there, but whatever. I mean if someone really wanted to steal your spare, they would need the wrench. So I figured it's really not an issue. I don't know why Ford decided on it.^^

Okay, Thanks BnB. I think I got it. I am going to finish up tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well and I'll post pics of the finished product.

Can you take a picture of the view at night. I like this spot but am thinking the tag light will drown out the picture

I'll see what I can do about getting you a picture.

There is some glare, but I use it for mostly for hooking up to my trailers so I just plan on shutting my lights off when I need it at night. The reverse and brake lights give me enough light to back up. I've tested it and it seems like it will work out fine.

I'm also planning on experimenting with covering up part of the light with electrical tape or something similar.

As far as just seeing behind me without having to see my hitch ball.....the glare has little effect.

Here's a pic. The garage was pitch dark when I took the picture.

I have to admit though that since we were talking about it I decided to try to put a piece of electrical tape on the light. You can barely see it in the pic, but I think it takes away a little of the glare and doesn't really change the light on the plate much.

(the yellow glare is from my cellphone that I'm taking the pic with)

Just a footnote.....during the day the color is surprisingly nice and vivid.

Got everything buttoned up. I got the wire into the right terminal, but it didn't work. I can view the camera (with or without the wires in the terminal), but it doesn't turn on automatically when I put it in reverse. I have to go to source and select camera. I am out of ideas. And done trying to figure it out. I firgure I' will just use the back up camera as a utility when needed. I looks great. Picture is fantastic. Just wish it would flip on when I am in reverse. Everything else works great. The bluetooth, the navigation, the DVD, and all other features are awesome.

Thanks for the help BnB. Maybe someone will give me an answer someday, as it might be a specific model issue. For now, it's really not a big deal.
