The 4R70 has a plastic filter so change that for sure, and replace the fluid that drains down.. I don't think you can do the convertor, because the plug isn't there on this model, I believe. If it is, great, but don't count on it being there. Otherwise let it drain for a bit, then replace the filter, a new gasket and reinstall the pan. Fill with the correct ATF. If you have any question on what fluid to use, pull the AT dipstick and it will tell you the correct one. Easy change, and probably a good one to do with the mileage. Good luck.

It uses mercon v i think mine has the drain plug but I could be wrong cause where the converter is there what looks like dust cap but I know that that's not always the case but thank you for the response I asked before but every one kinda gave me the worst news or just to drop the pan and new fluid but when the transmission takes 14 quarts I don't think changing just 4 quarts will do much good

With any drain and fluid replace on the tranny you run the risk of further damaging it depending on the condition and consistency of previous flushes (If ever done) you can actually flush the TC via the return lines on the transmission cooler, should get most of that old fluid out. No one here can tell you that a flush will fix your problem or make it worse, some have had luck with a flush and filter replacement and taken care of an issue like this and others have not. Myself personally I got lucky and a flush saved my trans from a shudder almost completely.

Watch this video if you decide to do it. you'll get a pretty good idea of the process. It's not difficult

I was told with my transmission having such high miles on it a flush is the death tole for my tranny but dropping the pan and changeout the filter I would be ok but no one has said if I should drain the tc cause I was think about buying fluid in bulk and a few filters and changing the fluid and filter a few weeks until all the bad fluid is out and all that is left is new fluid

If you can remove the pan you will drain was is it in the pan and trans only these trucks do not have a drain for the torque converter. The plug is for turning it over to take the nuts off. If you want to get the converter drained some you will need to drain and fill let it run several times to move the fluid around from the converter to the trans. Good luck.

With the shift going uphill just make sure the fluid is topped off

If you watch that vid I posted it'll show you how to "flush" the TC. But yeah they're right it is possible it could mean the death of the tranny but a lot of the times that happens when hooked to a vac or back flushing the lines. It really is a gamble.
