I've been putting my wallet in that useless slot on both my 10th gens for the last 9 years. Don't know why I started doing it, but it stuck and now it's just second nature.

I believe all of our trucks have the "tow package" wiring in place. My truck definitely did not come with the tow package because it has 3.31 gears. It's a 2002 4.6 xlt 4wd. I bought a kit for $60 that plugged in the tow wiring harness on the frame rail by the spare tire. It gave me a 7 pin connector and retained my existing 4 pin connector and the fuses necessary to activate the additional wires. My truck also has the plug for a brake controller under the dash. You can buy brake controllers that have harnesses specifically for our trucks. You just plug it into the port under your dash. My truck came to me with an aftermarket hitch already on. Only thing left is the tranny cooler and I will have the equivalent of the tow package, except my 3.31 gears.

Not necessarily, you'd have to get under it and see if you have lines going to a cooler. Mine has a separate cooler mounted in front of the radiator, as I understand it some have the cooler built into the radiator.

Yah my original cooler was built into the radiator, however my trans died then the shop attached a new one to the front.

Update on my trans cooler: two weeks ago I installed a heavy duty trans cooler, turns out my truck had the separate trans cooler that also runs thru the in radiator trans cooler. Who new?

Here is a rundown of factory options regarding towing options labeled for 5.4 and 4.6 respectfully. All trucks have a factory pigtail for a trailer brake controller

5.4
4/7 pin combo (standard/HD)
3.55/3.73 depending on year
class 3 hitch (standard)
Class 4 hitch (HD 7200/7700 GVWR)
Auxiliary Trans cooler
3 leaf pack with single overload (standard 6800 GVWR & below)
4 leaf pack with heavier overload spring (7200/7700 only)

4.6
Class 3 hitch
4/6 pin connector (standard/HD)
3 leaf single overload spring (both options
Auxiliary Trans cooler (option for standard/ Factory for HD)
3.55/3.73 (depending on trim and year)
