Never had to replace just the boots. Both shafts yes..That was my fault...ran it 4wd while in storage and on jack stands. Ripped a boot, drivers side. Replaced both half shafts w/motorcraft rebuilds.
The truck had 300,000 plus on it when I replaced that piece. The axles , gears looked really good, like new. I don't think these trucks wear a whole lot in that area. All I did is change the oil once in awhile.

They always say never to do that
We did it constantly and had no trouble
Yours is jacked up some?
I've had a place called CV Axle Express here in SLC re-boot several for me over the years. If you catch them soon enough, that's 100% acceptable in my book. My 2011 Escape, I just discovered that the drivers side needs a new boot.... BUT, I am going to replace the whole axle. The Motorcraft is only 100 dollars, so that's what I ordered. I would have been about 60 into a boot job. The original has almost 180K on it, so it lasted a while.
I actually put new lower control arms and tie rods on it.... that's when I noticed the CV was starting to leak. It's at Burt Brothers right now getting an alignment. The alignment has a one year warranty, so I'll take it back after I do the CV and have them check it again.
