Not a big thing to do, as I just did it to install this set up without the audio controls yet. Soon Grasshopper, Soon.
Thanks for the props.
Ah, there it is. Bit of a pain to program but I'm sure you could figure it out no problem.

I did my 07 Mustang without the PAC switch. I took a 2013 Boss steering wheel, rewired it to fit my 07. I then added the WPT 1242 plugs and wired the wheel to match the plugs. From there I made a new harness (2 wire) and attached it to the clockspring WPT wiring plug and then directly into the radio's J1 connector. I installed steering wheel controls on an 07 that never had them. I also add a factory 08 Navigation radio, 2012 outer mirros w/convex insert, 2012 sunvisors and wired them to have the illuminated units, added a Homelink mirror, and the list goes on. None of these were ever available in the 07 Mustang. I love to retro fit stuff. lol
I did a write up on Mustang Source that a lot of guys decided to do. It seemed to be a hit. We had the write up on how to put in the Boss steering wheel, but no one ever went the second mile. I guinea pigged the project. It was trial and error but worked out very very well. I love it.
On this Navigator strg wheel set up, the head I have has a setting that can be adjusted to the steering wheel signal resistance, according to the manual. I'll find out and if so, I'm golden. If not then I'll make up a bypass module. I'm sure that I have everything necessary to set it up that way if necessary.

Wow that's awesome, I didn't know that was possible. I've got a few friends that have been doing car audio installs for years and I've never even heard of that. Props to you for having the patience to figure that out, my ADD gives me hell just trying to wire lights to a relay and switch lol.
Drill.....I didn't think it was possible either, until I did some serious research. Guys were having problems with the Ford OEM radios, making them work. Without a Ford IDS electronics tool, you can't make a factory radio work that didn't come with steering wheel controls from the factory. It is built into the unit, what it can or can not do. You can use an IDS module and reprogram the radio head, but without the correct numerical sequence it isn't workable. A buddy, Jim in Washington, found that information, and once that was in my head, I was able to run with the idea. It worked. Here is the link if you are interested. The IDS stuff is around page 8 or 9 and goes for a few pages.

When I did the Mustang, I was specific on what radio I wanted to use and bought that one. It came out of a 2008 Merc Sable/Ford Taurus. I have full functionality and steering wheel controls, without the PAC conntector. There were numerous other radios available, but I wanted a Job 2 head (chrome ***** etc) and bought that. I stole it actually. I picked it up for under $100. Most in 2012 were going for around 400 or higher. The seller on eBay didn't list his correctly, and it was in another grouping, so I sat on it and got it. Sort of like the 200 amp alternator I bought last night. Rebuilt, 200 amp, 2004 CV PI, and I got it delievered for $64. I have plans for this alternator.

You certainly won't see a lot of Mustangs with this set up. lol Forgive the mount for the phone, and the wire hanging down. That's for the dash camera. With the set up in lil Red, the dash camera will set lower and not around the mirror. I'm even thinking about moving it behind the grille, if I can get a view. The honeycomb doesn't allow for much of an angle. lol
Boss steering wheel, Navigation oem radio, steering wheel controls, GT MyColor dash cluster, to name a few of the mods I've managed to do. The console is also retrofitted to a MyColor ambient lighting console, so I have the soft glow courtesy lights and cup lighted rings.
