I got this pile of crap out of the valve cover. Now I gotta find a fix for it. Gonna hit HD in the morning and see if I can get a nut with a large enough head that's just a touch larger than the hole. Then my hope is to heat it up with a torch, and push it in the hole, and hopefully the plastic will form around it and hold it in place permanently.

Hope that makes sense, LOL.

Good luck with that ignorant insert white
I hate those
Used to threaten to drag those Ford engineers over the counter
The bean counter and the weight scale man always win in Detroit

The brakes on my 80 series started acting funny on my last trail ride and sure enough, the front pads are shot, with the outboard FR partially into the backing and eating the rotor. When I pulled them apart, I noticed they were EBC Yellowstuffs, so as I was trying to decide what pads to buy, I called EBC for their recommendation. They gave me a recommendation for Greenstuffs, and then chose to send me not just fronts, but rears, too, for free!

It gets better...

When I asked them about the bed-in procedure, I asked about reusing rotors - they said no, and insisted on sending me free rear rotors, too! That's over $500 worth of parts for free!

It'll be a bit before I get to road test them, unfortunately, because the project turned into a bit of a debacle. First I found a seized rear caliper, and then I found out I need gaskets for the front hubs, and none of this can be bought locally. Gonna do rear hoses, while I'm at it.

I can't believe how strong they held in the 6two manifold. Busted quite a few COP bolts, the inserts held. Drilled out and re-threaded in place...didn't lose one of them. The COP hold down bolts passed through the inserts. So the threads rusted past insert , pretty much made it impossible for a few to run back through those inserts upon removal. Couldn't use heat of coarse..that would destroy the composite. They handled a drill and tap though.

Good luck with that insert install white...hope it works. I was lucky I didn't spin one!

Holy over-the-top customer service, Batman!

From your description, it sounds like nothing was the fault of the pads in the first place?

Exactly! They didn't owe me a thing. They were installed by the PO and I didn't even have a receipt.

They determined they were the wrong pad for how the vehicle is used (running below optimal temps). They had 6mm in August, and I think I've driven it about 4kmi. The squeal tab on the offending pad was snapped off, so my first warning that they were eating themselves was when they started eating the rotor, too.

If I like the pads on the 80, I'm gonna put them on the F-150, too. Will report back after bed-in.

Memorial Day campers.
The trailer had to be a 32-footer.

Death on wheels. That deserves a ticket and some way to stop them from proceeding w/o a proper tractor.

I just got the passenger side done. Think I'll relax with the fam the rest of the day (BBQ, etc.).... I don't need to have it all done until Thursday. My insert attempt worked. He already gave me the okey dokey to get a new VC for it, but I figured since I was buying a gasket set for both sides, I'd give it a go. I recorded it.... but not so sure it turned out good. Some numb nuts used black RTV on the old gaskets.
