These may be a shallow-mount design, but that surround and thickness of the mounting flange make it extend beyond the mounting surface a lot. At least an inch, it appears. Keep in mind you'll need to decrease the height of the enclosure to allow for that, which will significantly reduce its volume.

yeah i've noticed. i believe im overthinking this whole thing, and will be going to a local car audio shop later today..they carry most the brands im looking at and will be able to help me find the sound im looking for, then i can order what i want for cheaper elsewhere...i may also be upgrading boxes...for another $45 i can get one with an inch more of mounting depth. local shop has some mid-tier kenwoods 50% off...eventually someday ill post finished pics of the setup here...i think imma custom make my seat shims, i have access to a machine shop and i can make some pretty nice black aluminum shims.

This is why local places continue to struggle. If they help you, you should compensate them by spending the few extra dollars for their expertise. FWIW, You're not alone in this mentality. I often (usually) withhold part numbers and design layouts until a potential customer ccommits to using my company's services because too many times in the past, my hard work has been handed to a competitor, who then bids a lower price. My time and expertise are valuable. So are those of your local stereo shop.

Oh i intend to buy the subs through them, theyre reasonable priced, and their enclosures are also decently priced as well, both the subs and the $45 more expensive box mentioned above are through them....i just cant afford amps through them, they only carry high end $250+ amps (or at least thats all the advertise)...i support local when i can....and i just need to go see what amps they actually have that work for me in my price range, they also special order products on demand, so theres a good chance i get everything through them.

????

There are some pretty decent budget amps. I watch a lot of amp dyno tests by Williston Labs and Steve Meade.

I have a Pioneer GM-A5702 in my Toyota. It is NOT an efficient amp, but it packs a good punch. It is bridged with a 4 ohm load on it.

My F150 has an old as hell Craig Powerplay 300W amp in it, and it has been one hell of an amp for me. I seriously bought this thing in 1999. I replaced the caps in it a while back because they popped (and the damn thing still worked too).... I put Nichicon Gold's in it, and it sounds better than ever. I run it bridged all the time with a 2 ohm load.

I've mentioned this before, but out of the 3 amplifiers I own, my Orion Cobalt 500.1 is the best amp I've got. I've got a 2 ohm load on it with that MA Audio sub, which is a DVC sub. That sucker packs a MEAN wallop. Hatchback Fox Body Mustangs have always been a really good candidate for subs though.... this is my 4th setup I've had in there, and I like it best.

I've got two 15" Crunch's at home... the OLD SCHOOL stuff, when "The Crunch" was still made in the USA. It's all Chinese now. Anyway, I am trying to decide if I want to build some cabinets for those and use them for home audio, or build a box for the Mustang.... and bring the MA Audio in the house instead.

BLAH BLAH BLAH... that was long winded, sorry.

EDIT: This is my Pioneer amp:
