Hoping it isn't the starter like it was last time.
At the vet parking lot.
Everything works. Just won't turn over. I hear the fuel pump, etc.
no fast clicking, just a clunk when I turn the key.
Same in N as P.
Limited tools with me.
Checked fuses 110 and 113 under hood.
Checked battery connections.
No recent work
Any quick recommendations?

Put it in park, leave the key on and start it off the solenoid on the FW with a screw driver.
It's not cranking right ? That's what you mean by not turning over ? Yea try that. When you do that, make a good solid connection with the screw driver or you'll see fireworks lol.

Okay, if everything looks good up top, connection wise, the most common is that little red 10 gauge wire or the red cable at the starter connection. They corrode the quickest. Use two 10mm wrenches on the little wire post (might need a 11mm and a 10). If it's double nutted (it should be). Otherwise you'll break the post off...very easy to do rendering the starter useless. So be careful with that. The larger cable is a 12 or 13mm.
It's not uncommon for starters to fail like that. What tends to happen in those cases is that the starter armature and gear will extend outward like normal, but the gear won't rotate when it comes into contact with the flex plate in the transmission. The clunk you're hearing is most likely the armature extending out of the housing and then stopping.
If possible, have someone attempt to start the truck while you hit the starter with something. Either a hammer, large pair of pliers, or if nothing else try to find a sizeable rock nearby.

Right ^^^
If you end up needing a starter by chance, get a good lifetime unit, not hard to find, NAPA is the best to work with, - other 3rd party suppliers try like hell to rip yuh on the warranty, -O'Riely's is worst now when it comes to that...didn't use to be.
Anyway, make sure you laminate the receipt or make a copy. So you don't suffer the disappearing ink scam.

Thanks all. I could feel the solenoid was warm so to me, it was the teeth or whatever not engaging.
$125 tow.
Garage called and said it's the starter.
Borrowed a truck to get me home after the wife and kid picked up the dog.
Four days of fever for the kid, truck repair is just icing on the cake .
At least it's a Napa starter.
And I should get $75 back from my insurance company for the tow.
Unfortunately my buddy that showed up to "rescue" me is an old Marine and drives a Chevy.
