Default Spark Plug question..

I have a 2002 f150 with the 5.4 and I keep getting a misfire code for #4 cylinder. I have changed the cop. I have heard about the problems with the spark plugs breaking but not sure if my year truck is in that run with the problem. I want to change the plug but wanted to ask about the breaking problem first.

It is the newer +04 5.4 that has the problem, they are three valved instead of two.

You're fine, it's the 04+ 5.4 3v that has the plug snapping problem...

Depending on how many miles you have you may want to do all the plugs...

Torque spec 28-32ftlbs

Thanks for the help, does the 2002 5.4 have the same style plug as the 04 with the loop or is it more like a regular plug?? once again thanks for the help.

Is the motorcraft plug the best one to go back in with?

I just did them on my 03 5.4. I had a slightly rough idle (132,000 miles on the original plugs, go figure). Replaced them with OE Motorcraft plugs. Smooth as silk again.

FYI, you're going to want a thin wall spark plug socket, several extensions, and a swivel adapter. Real PITA just to swap the plugs.

From what the shop and I could tell I had OE plugs on my truck as well. None of them broke when the shop took them out- but then again a shop with access to the proper tools did it I didn't even bother trying to do it myself.

My truck doesn't run like new, but it runs like a different truck, and doesn't throw codes anymore.

/Have a ticking noise under my timing chain cover. Not sure what that's about but I'm sure it will be expensive.

About the tick, put some lucas oil stabilizer in with the next oil change. I run it in my truck and takes my tick away.
