I think you are going from the wrong end. The red cable comming from the black tube should disconect from the shift arm then udscrew the wheel from the tube. ut the shifter in low and you can get to it. you don't ned to take the dash apart.
Going off this picture, when I did mine (notice the loop on the red wire) i unlooped the red wire from the hook park on the back of the selector. I took nothing apart, except removing the broken white bracket, and less than 20 mins.
Alright, so first off you'll need a small ratchet with extension, a 7mm, 5/16, and 7/32 socket. And of course, the new bracket. Thats it.
You need to remove the giant panel below the steering wheel, so turn the truck on so you can shift to first, then pull of the small panel between the larger panel to be removed, and the gauge cluster. Then go to the bottom of the panel and remove the 2 5/16 bolts (red arrows).
Pull off the fuse cover, then remove the 4 7mm bolts that hold on the Hood latch and E brake release. (blue arrows). Each one has 2 screws; the other two are on the bottom of it. You'll need to look under it and pull the latches so you can see the bolts. There are 4 more 7mm bolts you will need to remove (yellow arrows).
Just clips hold it on, so pull it off, and put it aside. This is your view now. You're gonna want to look in the dash about where the arrow is pointing.
Gear selector issue but just a question. Back story, was driving home from work, hear a "SPROING" and something hits me in the leg. Gold colored torx screw. And now the gear selector is wonky. I see where it came from but should there be a bushing on this pin?
The pin in the oversize hole in the center of the bracket.
Also, any advice about getting everything lined up?

Thanks!!
Loosen the other screw with a t-30 I believe and start the one that fell out. Tighten both down and good to go. No bushing. The only thing that looks out of place is the missing screw on the shifter cable bracket.
FYI. It is usually better to start a new thread than revive an old one.
