Default Shifter Indicator Incorrect

This may be a little odd, but my shifter indicator is off 1 gear in all positions. Other than park to reverse, which is a bigger gap, when the tranny is in drive, indicator says 2nd. In 2nd it says first. I've looked under the steering column and the shifter indicator is all the way tightened. She still starts in Park and Neutral, its just the reading thats off. Any ideas anyone?

Follow the shifter cable, and you will see a bracket where the cable bolts to the column, with a torx head bolt. I have seen several where that bolt loosens up, and causes some play in the shift linkage and it not lining up properly. The fix is simply to tighten the bolt, possibly using loctite if you never want to worry about it again.

When this happened to me the white piece with that little black wheel had broken, very common, but yours looks to be intact. I would try spinning that wheel to adjust if yours is in fact not broken. There's also a thread called gear selector help if you check out the threads on my profile, can't figure out how to copy link from the phone, which had other ideas as well. I included pics of how mine looked.

What looked like a perfect piece of plastic, is definitely not. Put my hand in there and it was loose as hell. The pic will explain more lol

Haha well it looked good in the first pic. When you go to replace it you only need the little white bracket, not the whole selector or anything more. I got mine off a ford van or something at a junkyard.

Edit: remembered you can search on the forum, some people just use zip ties to fix it and don't get a new one.

I'll probably get a new one or pull it at a junkyard. Thanks for the help man!
