Default o2 censor replacement..

i started throwing codes like crazy the past few days. edge cs says the o2's are bad, running lean, lean in bank 1 & 2, and sometimes i can barely keeping it running at idle, and sometimes it'll run up to 3000 rpm and idle.

i know i need to replace the o2's, so will replacing them fix my other issues as well?

when replaceing them, is it just bolt and plug in and go or is there something to reset? im clueless when it comes to the computers on these things.

It could just be the 02s, but it could also be a vacuum leak. What engine do you have? I know the 5.4s have a vacuum hose on the back of the intake that is notorious for cracking. My truck has the 5.4 in it and it keep thrown lean codes. I replaced some vacuum lines including the one on the back of the intake and problem solved.

if your running lean on both banks something that is affecting both banks is causing it to lean out. you dont need 02 sensors. start looking for vacuum leaks. or it may possibly be a maf. try tapping the maf with a screwdriver and see if it idles better.

I agree that both banks running lean is very suspicious. You could also check the plenum to see if it is leaking as well. I believe the 5.4s leak just like the 4.6s do. Just curious, do you know what codes you are getting? Whether it is for bank 1 sensor 1 or 2? That would also make a difference. The only procedure would be to clear the codes or you could unhook the battery and short the cables together.

Agreed!!! Quite a coincidence for o2 sensors to fail on both banks at the same time. This is probably the most misdiagnosed circuit on any vehicle.

Unless there's something obvious under the hood-like a vacuum leak, step 1.............verify fuel pressure.

Ok, so I cleaned the TB today and checked for vacuum leaks. I didn't find any. When I took my cai off, I obviously unplugged everything. Put it back together, without the censors plugged in, and it idled like completely crap. When I hooked them all back up, it smoothed out for maybe 30 seconds then went back to the original idle.

I cleared the codes out this morning, and they havnt came back on yet. Its still running terribly, but no cel. As soon as it comes back on, ill post them.

Checked the edge again today, and it said p0174 (lean bank 2) and p0171 (lean bank 1).
