Default Need your help

Alright I have a 98 f150 with the 5.4. I took it mudding at yankee lake truck night, (first mistake) so the battery light came on due to mud getting into the alternator cause it to fry. I drove the truck about 10mins more and shut the truck down. Went to go start the thing and just made a click. So towed the truck to our garage. Got the truck running with a bad alternator and barrtery decdied to drive it home since it was a short distance. Made it half way. Replaced the battery alternator and starter. Now all the truck does is makes a clucking noise like something is binding up by the flywheel. I know the tranny was messing up cause i was on the verge of loosing reverse and third was slipping badly. I cant think of what it is. Just find it really hard to belive the motor is locked up. Didnt make any knocking noises. Ran just fine.

Any ideas?

i had the same issue back in july. i went muddin in may and there was mud f*cking everywhere! even a little puddle in the air box. i really fked my engine compartment up. long story short, the alternater was full of dirt and mud and after pressure washing it (WHICH YOU SHOULD NEVER DO) it did the same thing, some times it started, some times it would just do a single click then i would have to try again. I tried a new battery and it still did it. I then bought a new starter like my pops suggested, threw it in (which is a B*TCH to do) and now she starts like a champ. that was my fixer for it.

I bought a reman starter at advance. I'm taking auto at my highschool so I have the truck in there and we are working on taking the tranny out since my was F*cked up anyways. I'll disconect the starter and see it the motor spins then. it still being engaged makes alot of sense. I'll let ya know how it goes

Turns out to be spun bearings. Found pieces of metal in the oil pan. Oil filter was plugged up with metal shavings. Putting a 4.6 in till I can rebuild the 5.4.

Geez man that sucks... made even worse that you'll have to deal with the gutless 4.6 until your 5.4 is healthy again
