Default Lug nut issues

Over the last month my lug nuts of the driver side rear seem to keep coming loose . I keep retighten them and they keep loosing up. I know it sounds weird but do lug nuts wear out over time or is it something else?

Yes lugs can wear and so can the wheels. If the taper seat is worn on either the wheel or the lug they wont seat properly and can loosen on their own.

I just went to town and it loosen again and it sheared off a lug stud. The problems seem to continue. Now I'm worried to drive it even to work in the morning

I don't believe so, it just all started acting up without warning

Seems weird, I've never really heard of it happening.. It'd probably cost you $100 but you should get all new studs and lugs and that ought to clear it up.

For a quick fix for now put loc-tite on the studs and lugnuts, tighten them up and let your truck sit for like 5-6 hours to dry and that will prevent them from loosening up, you should eventually change out those lugnuts tho

Check the wheel that's coming loose for oval holes! Once this happens they will never stay tight and the wheel needs replaced or sleeves put in the bolt holes by a wheel repair shop.
